In the webcast Mr Wegmann outlines how private banking has become an important focus of financial institutions and how it has transformed from “one business among many in a bank” towards a major preoccupation and revenue generator.

Based on his long experience in Japan and with Japanese institutions Mr Wegmann gives us some interesting insights into the Japanese private banking market (still the second largest market in the world in terms of high net worth population). He explains that while the market has changed over the last years, it remains a very difficult place to do business for international private banks. He points out that many foreign banks are chasing a relatively limited number of big customers who are willing to deal with foreign institutions.
